
Communicating Dementia to the Community
Course Overview
This course synthesizes content from the six previously developed Brain Health Initiative dementia training modules into a condensed, one-hour format designed for community health workers, health educators, care coordinators, case managers, and patient navigators who serve individuals with dementia and their caregivers. It emphasizes both basic clinical understanding and strategies for effectively communicating dementia-related knowledge to families, caregivers, and community members.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe ways to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).
- Discuss the importance of early detection and diagnosis for persons living with dementia.
- Identify best practices for developing and implementing care plans, supporting caregivers of persons living with ADRD, and recognizing when to refer individuals and families to appropriate community resources.
- Describe how to to effectively communicate dementia-related knowledge back to families, caregivers, and community groups.
